A fisherman identified as Asubikwe has been killed during a robbery incident on a resident at Alatise axis of Ilesa- Ijaregbe road, Obokun local government area, in the earlier hours of yesterday.

The robbers numbering about five in an attempt to escaped from the scene of their failed operation, shot sporadically to scare away the neighbours who have been alerted by the victim.

Asubikwe who was said to have been fishing in the Opo River for more than a decade was hit by a stray bullet in an uncompleted building where  he lived and died on arrival at Wesley Guild hospital.

Confirming  the incident, a police source at Ibokun Divisional police headquarters said a woman, name withheld, came to report a robbery incident on her residence and that some valuables were carted away.

According to the source attempts by the robbers to escape with the victim's Toyota Camry car falled because she was able to demobilize it using a tracking device.

" a woman came to report an attack on her house by some people suspected to be armed robbers, saying that a man was shot when the people were trying to escape",  said the source.
Speaking on the porosity of the corridor, the Olomu of Ijaregbe, ọba Edward Adetimo emphasized the need for the police to have a post in the area.
He said, " there is always a palpable fear among my people and other motorists plying the quiet road, because of the recurring attacks by marauders  who constantly operate in the axis."
