Speaking during the handing over ceremony, the chairman, board of trustees of the Endowment Fund, Chief Akin Akinola said the project was part of the resolve of the community to support the state government if their prayer for the upgrade of the defunct Osun State College of Education to a university was granted.
“ When , during the last administration, we the leaders and stakeholders of Ijesaland took the decision to support the government with some measure of expenditure of the to hen nascent university, we knew it was an herculean task. But we also knew that the can do it spirit of ijesa people, which is incomparable with any other would be called to bear and jas therefore edged us on to success as we now witness today. The handing over of this Nursing laboratory building to the university authorities today is part of the implementation of that decision”.
He enjoined students to put the structure to good use as they resume for a new academic session.
In his address, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, who revealed that the state government has made available 4 billion naira to the university within the last 20 months for resource verification, renovation, and upgrading of infrastructural facilities, pledged that the institution would continue to maintain academic standards in all its professional courses.
“We have resolved not to compromise on standards or cut corners, as the professional bodies regulating these programs have strict standards that must be met. I am proud to say that we have met these standards after committing huge resources (human and material) into the programs.
He noted that the school Senate has approved additional programs, including medicine and surgery, early childhood care education, special education, French language, Chinese studies, Yoruba language, and agricultural sciences, to be presented to the National University Commission for resource verification with the hope of commencing them this year.
Also speaking, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Gbenga Onigbogi, stated that the donation fulfilled the assurance of the Ijesa community to support the development of UNILESA.
“I extended my warm appreciation to the donors and pray that God will bless all those who contributed to this project. This collective effort demonstrates the community’s commitment to developing our university, our town, and our dear state,” he maintained.
Hon. Onigbogi added that the vision of the community is for the university to become a model institution, comparable to top-class universities worldwide, attracting a diverse community of international students and renowned scholars for research and innovative breakthroughs.
In their goodwill messages, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola and Colonel Akin Moses eulogised the donor and urged the beneficiary to jealously guide the laboratory.
In her vote of thanks, Lady Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo reaffirmed the readiness of the community to continue partnering with the institution to make it walk tall in the comity of universities.
In attendance were Dr. Ayo Ayeni, Engnr. Segun Okebiorun, Chief Ajayi, Chief Mrs. Yemisi Iyanda, chief Mrs Yemisi Ariyibi Barrister Atobatele, Engnr. Yemi Oguntominiyi, Chief Remi Oyeyemi, mr Gbenga Lufadeju, Mr femi Esan and Mr. Wale Idowu.
