IJESA ELDERS KEY INTO THE IJESALAND DEVELOPMENT FUND, LAUD ASIWAJU YINKA FASUYI FOR THE INITIATIVE

Senior citizens in Ijesaland have expressed total support for the Ijesaland Development Fund initiative of Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland and the president/CEO of Ibadan Business School, to raise one billion naira annually to transform the region.

Speaking during the presentation of the IDF to the Ijesa elders at the Oba Adekunle Aromolaran Civic Centre, Ereja Square, Ilesa, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi told the people that the focus was to ensure that all the people of Ijesa descent above 21 years of age contribute to the project.

Asiwaju Fasuyi emphasised that the step became imperative to avoid donation fatigue among the about 120 Ijesas patriots who funded the new Owa’s palace and over 300 people who sponsored the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre. “The idea is to enable everyone to have their names registered in the IDF account book. Names of the contributors will be published online, and the printed copy will be made available to them annually”.

On the schedule of implementation, the Asiwaju said the entire 2025 would be devoted to massive sensitisation of the traditional rulers, community leaders, Ijesa societies and clubs, professional groups, vocational groups, religious organisations, political organisations, Ijesa diasporan groups, market women and men, and vulnerable groups, to mention a few.

Asiwaju Fasuyi hinted that 2025 would also be used for the creation of a website and the setting up of a secretariat and other management logistics to ensure the smooth running of the operations in the year 2026.

He added that a 10-level payment profile has been designed that allows for a minimum contribution of N1,000 (one thousand Naira) only per annum, stressing that the top ceiling contribution is open-ended as the individual commitment, capacity, and endowments dictate.
LEVEL 1:N1,000 X 150,000 N50,000,000
LEVEL 2: N2,500 X 50,000 125,000,000
LEVEL 3: N5,000 X 20,000 N100,000,000
LEVEL 4: N10,000X 10,000 N100,000,000
LEVEL 5: N25,000 X 4,000 N100,000,000
LEVEL 6: N50,000 X 2,000 N1O0,000,000
LEVEL 7:N100,000X 1,000 N100,000,000
LEVEL 8: N250,000 X 300 N75,000,000
LEVEL 9: N500,000 X 150 N75,000,000
LEVEL 10: N1,000,000 X 75 N75,000,000

“In order to promote commitments from all communities in Ijesaland, coupled with the need to ensure that proceeds from the fund are spread across all communities in Ijesaland to prosecute their community-driven projects, individuals will be made to market their payments into any of the six local governments of their choice in Ijesaland. He/She will be made to indicate in which of the six local governments in Ijesaland he/she wants his/her donation to be credited”.

The idea, according to the Yeyerise of Ilesa (Looja Obirin Ijesa) Chief Mrs. Hannah Ojo, is a blueprint for a new Ijesaland since it will allow everyone to participate in the land's development.

According to her, the IDF would lessen the load on the few Ijesa patriots who had been in charge of transforming Ijesaland into the socioeconomic centre of the Yoruba nation.

Also speaking, the Ogboni of Ilesa, High Chief Saka Fapohunda, urged everyone to heed the clarion call and elevate Ijesa to the level of its forefathers' ambitions.

The proposed Ijesaland Development Fund was overwhelmingly approved by everybody in attendance, and they praised the Ijesaland Community Development Assembly members and its founder, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, for their many inspiring initiatives to promote the unity and advancement of the region.

On the entourage of the Asiwaju of Ijesaland were Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, Alagaba Wale Idiwu, Erelu Olafadehan, and Mr. Olatunbosun.

  1. This is a welcome development. It's well supported. However, appropriate machinery should be put in place to ensure proper accountability and judicious use of the fund. Obokun a gbe wa o!
