OAU STUDENTS PROTEST , BLAME COLLEAGUE'S DEATH ON NEGLIGENCE OF HEALTH PERSONNEL.

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State today shut the school main gate, blocked Ife/Ibadan expressway and Ede/Ife road to protest the death of a 24-year-old, 400-level student of the Department of Foreign Languages, Wumi Adesina who reportedly died yesterday. 

The deceased student, Wumi was reportedly rushed to the school Health Centre for treatment but was later referred to a hospital outside the school premises where she was certified dead.

Meanwhile, the students of the school who stormed the streets within the campus shot the campus gate, block major roads alleged that the medical personnel at the school Health Facility did not attend to the final year student when she was rushed to the centre. 

The students through its union president, Festus Olayiwola alleged negligence of duties by the medical personnel, saying, while we mourn Aishat, we cannot lose sight of the circumstances that led to her death, especially the role of the University Health Center. Aishat's death is not the first to happen due to negligence of duties by the workers at the Health Center. It is only one out of many.

He demanded the University Management to investigate the death of Wumi and punish health workers who failed in performing their duties before referring her to another hospital. 

Meanwhile, the Management of the school through the Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju in a statement confirmed the death of Wumi Adesina of the Department of Foreign Languages.

He explained that the student reported to the Health Centre on Tuesday, 28th September 2021 with signs and symptoms of a severe infection and was promptly treated with some drugs prescribed, asked to report back as an outpatient.

He said Miss Adesina reported back to the Health Centre in the morning of Thursday, 30th September 2021 and upon examination was referred to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital for further management where she regrettably died. 

The management  appealed to all students of the students of the University to remain calm and kindly refrain from any act that could jeopardise the peace on campus and truncate the ongoing Rain Semester examinations.
